This morning, HealthNews reported that canned food might bring an additional risk to your health due to the addition of bisphenol A (BPA) as a can liner to prevent food-borne bacteria from forming. On the heels of that news is that processed meats have become more of a health risk that previously believed. That’s right bacon lovers, that rasher in the refrigerator elevates your risk of both heart disease and diabetes.
Appearing today in the journal Circulation, results of a study by Renata Micha of the Harvard School of Public Health linked the salt and chemicals in processed meats to an increased risk of heart disease and diabetes. Just one serving a day of crispy bacon, a corn dog, sausage or even processed lunch meat was associated with a 42 percent higher risk of heart disease and 19 percent increased risk of diabetes |
